Components Alternatives

To use the FrontPage Counters, Guestbooks, Discussion Boards etc. the web server needs to have FrontPage Server Extensions installed. For this reason, there sometimes is an interest in alternatives to Run-Time Components

A variety of CGI scripts for Counters, Guestbooks, Discussion Boards etc. are available on the web. They are usually harder to set up than just inserting a Component. For example, see Matt's Script Archive or Mike's world.

Specifically for Counters, there is an alternative which does not require one to deal with CGI scripts. Some servers do all the logging for you, if you insert an IMG tag which retrieves a counter from the server every time the page is accessed. For example, see NedStat or WebTracker.
