Tips: English Spell Checking with non-English FP installations

Spell Checking with FP normally uses only the installed FP language. Changing the Web's language with FP Explorer doesn't resolve this! (This Tip has been submitted to us by Thomas [EXTERNAL] - Thanks very much!)

If you want to spell check your Web in English and your installed FP version is non-English, you have a problem because FP does the spell checking only in the programs language.

SOLUTION: Edit the file FRONTPG.INI (located in your Windows directory) to change the line FrontPageLangID=0xLLLL to FrontPageLangID=0x0409 and save the file; LLLL is your language code, e.g. 0x0407 for German. You now changed the FrontPage Language ID to English and from now on the spell checker uses the English dictionary!

Common Language IDs

Chinese 0x0404
Czech 0x0405
Danish 0x0406
Dutch 0x0413
English 0x0409
Finnish 0x040B
French 0x040C
German 0x0407
Greek 0x0408
Hungarian 0x040E
Icelandic 0x040F
Italian 0x0410
Japanese 0x0411
Korean 0x0412
Norwegian 0x0414
Polish 0x0415
Portuguese 0x0416
Russian 0x0419
Serbo Croatian 0x041A
Slovak 0x041B
Spanish 0x040A
Swedish 0x041D
Turkish 0x041F

If you have Visual C++ take a look at the header-file WINNT.H where the language IDs (including sublanguage and primary language IDs) are listed and explained. Other compilers should provide a comparable header file.

NOTE: Changing the FrontPage Language ID might require additional files for spell checking that are not provided by FrontPage. This tip is provided "as is"! Other effects after changing FP Language ID as the described are unknown.
